Fusion Splicing Process

Fusion splicing process involves the melting of two fibres together by an electric arc generated in the fusion splicing machine. The fusion splicing operation is to be done in an open space due to safety considerations. It is advisable to perform the operation in an elevated position above the ground level, to ensure a pollution free atmosphere for splicing. This operation requires the deployment of the fusion splicer or fibre optic splicer. The two ends of the fibers to be joined are to be aligned with great precision to ensure perfect fusion joint. A small electric arc is generated to fuse the fibres and weld them together. A fusion splicer can perform just one splicing operation at a time.
